The RigLOK™ connector offers a secure and robust connection and disconnection method for mooring systems. Designed to meet the demands of drilling rig station keeping, the RigLOK™ is suitable for any temporary mooring system operating in arduous weather conditions.

The RigLOK™ connector enables release under load in all operating conditions, allowing disconnection to take place without having to wait for weather windows. In addition to significant savings on rig and vessel time for rig moves, this also allows for disconnection closer to potential weather threats such as cyclones or icebergs. This innovative solution maximises the time kept on location and avoids costly, unnecessary disconnections.

The release-under-load mechanism is driven by internal hydraulic accumulators and initiated by an encrypted sonar signal. The 2-way communication protocol provides the operator with status feedback before disconnection, whilst safety interlocks prevent undesired operation. The ability to make multiple and sequenced mooring disconnections offers complete rig control.

Simple and quick on-deck pre-deployment operation requires minimal resources and time. The RigLOK™ is also quick to re-install after disconnection.

  • Acoustic communication
    • The RigLOK™ has 3 communication options:
      – Topside control system (on the MODU)
      – Portable control system (support vessel or similar)
      – ROV mounted hydrophone
    • Each RigLOK™ can be interrogated independently. Data on battery capacity, unique unit ID and a ‘ready to release’ status is provided
    • When commanded, each RigLOK™ can be disconnected simultaneously or in series. Tailor-made release sequences can be programmed. The disconnection process takes less than 15 seconds per line
    • The highly reliable acoustic system has been developed by Applied Acoustics specifically for the RigLOK™ connector and is type approved by DNV GL
    • The acoustic system is a derivative of Applied Acoustics protocol. In addition to offshore and subsea applications, it is utilised in military grade products standard to NATO-member naval forces
  • Support Equipment
    • Once recovered, the RigLOK™ requires minimal on-deck maintenance and testing before redeployment
    • An acoustic test unit is used to check communications and diagnose electronics
    • In less than 15 minutes a hydraulic service unit is connected to the RigLOK™ to reset and pre-charge the tool for another deployment
